Texas football redshirt freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers is expected to see action in the Orange-White game at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 23.

Ewers, the No. 1 recruit in the 2021 recruiting class, is a first-year quarterback who transferred from Ohio State and enrolled at Texas in January.

Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian landed a massive recruiting win when Ewers decided to play for the Longhorns in December 2021.

Golden: Texas has landed Quinn Ewers, but will the new quarterback stick around?

Ewers, who played for Southlake Carroll, first committed to Texas under former coach Tom Herman. In October 2020, Ewers said he was “100% committed.”

Six days later, he flipped to Ohio State, reclassified his eligibility to skip his high school senior year and enroll with the Buckeyes.

In 2021, Ewers was buried on the depth chart while Ohio State freshman C.J. Stroud proved to be sensational, winning the Big Ten offensive player and quarterback of the year honors.

Texas football: In landing Quinn Ewers, Texas’ Steve Sarkisian shores up need, regains recruiting mojo

Now, Quinn Ewers will be competing for the starting job as quarterback for the Texas football team.

Here are three things to know about Quinn Ewers.

Quinn Ewers: The high school stats

There's reason Ewers was considered 2021's No. 1 recruit. Playing for Southlake Carroll, Ewers amassed 6,445 yards passing, with 73 touchdowns and eight interceptions over the course of 22 games.

Ewers also accounted for 701 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns during his prep career, and was selected to play in the 2022 All-American Bowl.

Quinn Ewers was sought by other Texas schools

Texas football wasn't the only program that sought to add Quinn Ewers to its roster once he made the decision to leave Ohio State.

Texas Tech and TCU both made pitches to Ewers last December.

Quinn Ewers will face tough competition for the starting quarterback job at Texas

Quinn Ewers is part of a loaded quarterback roster for Texas football.

Since the departure of former starter Casey Thompson for Nebraska, there have been significant additions to the Texas football roster at quarterback.

Fellow newcomer Maalik Murphy joined Ewers and former starting quarterback Hudson Card in the race for the top spot as the Longhorns' primary ball-handler.
