Former Ohio State defensive lineman Jacolbe Cowan is heading to North Carolina after entering the transfer portal last week.

Cowan announced his decision on Tuesday night, a day after former Buckeyes teammate and cornerback Lejond Cavazos also said he was joining the Tar Heels’ program.

It’s a homecoming for Cowan, who grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“There’s no place like HOME!!!,” he tweeted.

Injuries kept Cowan from breaking into the Buckeyes’ deep defensive line rotation in his two seasons with the program.

He did not appear in a game in 2020 and played only 44 snaps last season, according to data from Pro Football Focus, totaling three tackles in his reserve role.

Cowan was ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 163 overall prospect in the 2020 class by 247Sports' composite rankings.
