Momentum continues to slow for Ohio State football's defensive recruiting in the 2023 class.

After becoming the Buckeyes' first cornerback commit in the 2023 class in April, four-star Tampa, Florida native Dijon Johnson has decommitted from the program.

He told the website On3 about his decision on Saturday.

It followed a push in recent weeks by Florida and Miami to keep him in his home state. Johnson removed all Ohio State affiliation from his social media pages before attending Florida's Friday Night Lights camp Friday in Gainesville.

Johnson is the No. 20 prospect in the state of Florida and is the No. 10 cornerback and No. 93 prospect overall in the 2023 class according to 247Sports' composite rankings.

Johnson's decommitment comes during a rough stretch for Ohio State on the defensive recruiting trail, losing four-star linebacker Tackett Curtis to USC, four-star defensive lineman John Walker to UCF and five-star safety Caleb Downs to Alabama.

It's a stretch coach Ryan Day addressed at Big Ten media days, admitting that when defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and the rest of the defensive staff have changed the scheme as "drastically as we have," recruits are going to want to see what it's going to look like.

“We’ll see how it plays out. But I think our defensive guys have done a really good job recruiting,” Day said. “They are hustling like crazy and really working at it.

“But I do think guys are excited to see what this looks like. And I think when they see the energy and a bunch of guys flying around like that, it’s going to be a much easier sell.”

In the 2023 class, Ohio State currently has four-star Jermaine Mathews out of Winton Woods High School in Cincinnati, four-star Kayin Lee out of Ellenwood, Georgia and Calvin Simpson-Hunt out of Waxahachie, Texas, who flipped from Texas Tech to the Buckeyes, at cornerback.

Ohio State currently has offers out to four-star Javien Toviano and five-star Cormani McClain, two of the top-five cornerbacks in the 2023 class, who are still uncommitted, along with four-star Ethan Nation.
