'The road to Easy Street goes through the sewer': John Madden quotes that will never be forgotten

The NFL world has a broken heart tonight after the league announced the death of John Madden, who passed away Tuesday morning at age 85.

As NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said, Madden was football for so much of his life. He played in the NFL. He won a Super Bowl as a coach in the NFL. He called so many big NFL games as one of the best broadcasters to ever to it. And he also became the namesake of the biggest sports video game of all time.

He truly did it all.

One of the many great things about John Madden were the legendary things he said during his days. And not all of them were serious:

Let's take a look back at some of the best Madden quotes.

On his fear of flying:

“I’m not afraid of flying; I just fear I’m going to die. I think I’m – vulnerable. I admit it. I don’t fly. I got claustrophobia. I don’t go in high buildings. I don’t do those things. I’m just myself, whatever that is.”

On his great life:

“If you think about it, I’ve never held a job in my life. I went from being an NFL player to a coach to a broadcaster. I haven’t worked a day in my life.”

On dressing up:

“Even when I was a little kid, I hated to dress up. I hated to put on regular shoes. I wanted to play all the time. I hate to wear any kind of coat or sweater. I’ve never liked hot. I’ve never liked to be warm.”

On not taking himself seriously:

“I never professed to be perfect. I do something wrong or something stupid, I laugh at myself.”

On his legacy:

“If someone remembers me as a coach, they still call me ‘Coach,’ but if they know me for the video game, they just call me ‘Madden.'"
