Pickerington Central opens seventh consecutive season atop ThisWeek Super 7 poll

From staff reports

For the seventh consecutive season, Pickerington Central earned the No. 1 spot in the preseason Super 7 poll.

The Tigers were a unanimous pick, but after that the uncertainty began as four teams earned second-place votes.

Big Walnut, which a year ago went 12-1 to post its first winning season since 2014, is No. 2. The Golden Eagles had only one second-place vote but were third in the eyes of seven voters.

Pickerington North came in at No. 3, tempting us to look forward to the Week 4 matchup with host Central. The Panthers had five second-place votes and were the only other team to appear on all 11 ballots.

Pickerington Central takes the field for last year's Division I, Region 3 final against Upper Arlington at Westerville Central.

Marysville and Upper Arlington, which also had resurgences last year and went undefeated in the regular season, took the next two spots. Following them is Gahanna Lincoln at No. 6. Hartley and New Albany round out the poll being tied for seventh.

Opening week will showcase two matchups within the Super 7 with Big Walnut playing host to Hartley and Marysville playing host to New Albany.

In all, 15 teams received votes.
