The Detroit Tigers cleared shortstop Sergio Alcantara to return from the 10-day injured list, the team announced Thursday. The Tigers put him on the injured list July 9 with an undisclosed injury.

The 24-year-old will join the 60-man player pool and take part in team workouts Thursday at Comerica Park before the 6:40 p.m. intrasquad scrimmage begins.

In 102 games for Double-A Erie last season, Alcantara hit .247 with 10 doubles, two home runs and 27 RBIs. He struck out 71 times compared to 48 walks.

The Tigers acquired him in the J.D. Martinez trade in 2017, where the Arizona Diamondbacks returned Alcantara, third baseman Dawel Lugo and shortstop Jose King.
